IWA Young Writer Receives Award in Cricket Magazine Contest

Magdalene W., Incarnate Word Academy 5th Grader, received Third Place Prize in the September 2022 Cricket League story competition. For this contest, each entrant was asked to submit an original short story about a mythological creature. Magdalene’s short story, Thunder and Ice, appears in Cricket Magazine’s January 2023 issue and is posted at cricketmagkids.com/league/contest/winners/532598.

Cricket features the best short stories, poems, and articles by the world’s finest children’s authors and is illustrated by the best artists from here and abroad.  In each issue, award-winning Cricket sponsors a different and unique writing or art competition, with hundreds of entries pouring in each time from enthusiastic CRICKET readers all over the world.  Winners receive recognition and a certificate, and the best entries are published in the magazine and on its website for children.

Magdalene enjoys reading, painting, roller-blading and spending time with her two Labrador retrievers. This is Magdalene’s second Cricket League Award; her first being an Honorable Mention in the magazine’s April 2022 poetry contest.
