IWA Academic Excellence Music Ohio Music Education Association Jr. High Solo and Ensemble Contest Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade musicians who participated in the Ohio Music Education Association Jr. High Solo and Ensemble Contest at Cuyahoga Community College West on Saturday, April 20. Our 16 students played 16 solos and in 6 small groups for a judge along with students from 30 area schools and received 11 Superior and 11 Excellent ratings. view complete details OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest Congratulations to the following band students who performed at the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest: David Muller (superior (I) rating for trumpet solo), Lynzie Horejs (excellent (II) rating for clarinet solo), Lynzie Horejs, Maria Criscione and Julia Kashuba (excellent (II) rating for clarinet trio). 1st Place Finish January Classroom of Champions winner Writing Patiot's Pen Conducted nationwide, Patriots’ Pen, the Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsored youth essay competition, gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy. In October of 2012, Incarnate Word Academy submitted 115 sixth and seventh grade entries to Strongsville VFW Post #3345. The 2012 – 2013 prompt was “What I Would Tell America’s Founding Fathers.” Sixth grader Vince DiFilippo won third place at the local level, earning a plaque and $50 cash award. Seventh grader Riya Lakkaraju won first place in District 7, covering 8 counties, first place in the state of Ohio, and 11th place in the nation. She earned several plaques and monetary prizes totaling $3,000. Congratulations to both winners on your writing success, and to all sixth and seventh grade participants for a tremendous effort. Power of the Pen update.. Congratulations to Aidan McCaffrey and Daniella Saul. They competed in the District Power of the Pen competition held on March 16th. Aidan came in 4th place and Daniella came in 7th place. They have both qualified for the State Competition which will be held on May 23rd at the College of Wooster. Spelling Plain Dealer Spelling Bee Ashwin Veeramani brings back to Incarnate Word Academy the title of being The Plain Dealer Spelling Bee champ. On Saturday, March 2, 2013 Ashwin competed against 54 other students in the Spelling Bee to win the coveted title and a trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee. Math
MathCounts Alice Wu placed second overall at the competition. This qualifies Alice for the state contest which will be held on March 9 in Columbus.
